UNION TOWNSHIP, PA — On Saturday afternoon, Oct. 27, at the Monocacy Fire Company, William Small and his family were presented with a $10,000 check from the GoFundMe efforts of the community.

The fundraiser was organized by Lt. Rick Lombardo III of the Exeter Township Fire Department.

The Smalls' home at 335 Woodglen Road in Union Township was destroyed by fire on Oct. 11. Nothing was left but the foundation. No one was injured. The family of four and their dog have been staying in lodging provided by the American Red Cross.

The family is William Small; his wife, Sue; son, Joseph; and Joseph's fiancee, Kelli McCardle. Joseph Small is a volunteer with Monocacy.

The event was a continuation of the support efforts that the community has been coordinating in recent weeks, according to Lombardo.

A fundraiser was held at Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard store in Birdsboro.

Lt. Rodney Wagner of Monocacy Fire Company organized clothing drives at the station and at Exeter's Reiffton station in support the Small family.
