At Optimist Field, the Birdsboro Orioles won their home opener against Twin Valley. The winning pitcher was Dan Gorman who combined with reliever Adam Mock on a one-hit eight-strikeout performance.
Ryan Greydus, Jason Edmunds and Adam Mock led the Orioles with two hits each. Zach Norman tripled early in the game to clear the bases and get the Orioles off to a five-run lead in the first inning.
GAME 2: BIRDSBORO ORIOLES 7 ' EXTON 11
At Optimist Field, the Birdsboro Orioles were defeated by Exton in a Sunday morning (May 20) contest that was filled with early season sloppy play by both squads that included walks, and hit batsman ' all of which contributed to the loss.
The Orioles managed only five hits in the contest and stranded 10 baserunners despite adding six runs late in the game. Randy Moser pitched well in his first appearance of the season over the first four innings. He gave the Orioles an opportunity to come back late.
The Orioles' bullpen surrendered a crucial five-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
GAME 3: BIRDSBORO ORIOLES 13 ' MOHNTON 10
At Mohnton, the visiting Birdsboro Orioles defeated the Mavericks in a seasaw contest that saw the lead change multiple times over the first four innings.
In his first pitching outing of the season, Corey Schlegel efficiently went 6 2/3 innings to earn the victory. His performance was admirable considering a defensive lap by the Orioles in the third inning led to five unearned runs. Dan Gorman earned the save.
The offense for the Orioles was led by Mike Barbera who went 3-for-4 with six RBIs including a triple. Kyle Hultz chipped in with two hits in the 12-hit Oriole attack that was highlighted by an eight-run fourth inning to provide a much-needed cushion against a late game comeback by Mohnton.
