The Boyertown girls' cross country team, led by a second place finish by Elizabeth Simpson, captured third place as a team at the PAC-10 Championships held at the Daniel Boone Homestead on Wednesday, October 17.The Lady Bears finished with 93 team points, behind Perkiomen Valley (36 points) and Spring-Ford (76).
"The results of the girls' race came as a big surprise," said Boyertown head coach Ron Hoffmanner. "We struggled during the course of the year in many of our races, finishig fifth in the league standings.
"After the race, I though that we may have moved up to fourth, but when it was announced that we were third, I was so pleased with the girls."
Many of our varsity girls are seniors, so with this, their last PAC-10 race, it was great to see them accomplish so much and leave on such a positive note."
Although she's only a soph-more, Boyertown's Elizabeth Simpson let the rest of the PAC-10 know that she will be a force to be reckoned with in the next two years.
She finished second in a time of 19:01.5, just over 10 seconds behind winner Heather Giovagnoli of Spring-Ford. The young runner has continued to improve throughout the season and Hofmanner is anxious to see what she does in the districts and states.
Elizabeth may still have her best races of the season ahead of her," said Hofmanner. "She is beginning to realize her potential as a runner, and that could lead to many more great accomplishments over the next two weeks.
"She has worked hard this season to get where she is, and I know that hard work will continue. I'm excited to see where the next two weeks will lead."
Melissa Constanzer was the next highest finisher for Boyertown, taking 14th place in a time of 21:22.5.
