The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) will host the sixth annual “STEM Design Challenge featuring K’Nex” at the BCIU Main Office, 1111 Commons Boulevard, Reading, on Feb. 28 and March 1, 2019.

Students from Berks County schools in grades four through eight are challenged to create a machine that will move objects across a table. The “crane” must pick up the object, move it at least six inches and set it back down. Teams must consider how environmentally friendly the machine is.

There will be 44 teams on Feb. 28 and 40 teams on March 1; there are four students per team. The purpose for the competition is to increase STEMrelated educational opportunities for students at the regional and state levels. Furthermore, the STEM Design Challenge featuring K’Nex intends to raise awareness of the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.
