Fair Districts of Berks and Schuylkill Counties is celebrating the beginning of its third year of local efforts to help end partisan redistricting in Pennsylvania. We support legislation in the state General Assembly that would amend the process by which both congressional and local state legislative districts are determined so that an independent citizens commission would determine all such districts in Pennsylvania, without political influence. Despite the 2018 ruling of the PA Supreme Court, the partisan redistricting process in Pennsylvania is not fixed yet.
The Fair Districts Berks Third-Year Celebration will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, March 4, at the Wyomissing Restaurant and Bakery, 1245 Penn Ave, Wyomissing, to celebrate the ongoing work of our grassroots group, Fair Districts Berks And Schuylkill Counties, a local working group of the statewide Fair Districts PA (fairdistrictspa.com). In order to have good and fair representation in Harrisburg and in Washington, we need free and equal elections and we must end the partisan manipulation of our congressional and state district boundaries, now. We’re working together locally and with other groups across the state to ensure the establishment of a transparent, independent, citizens redistricting commission.
Our featured speaker for the evening will be Carol Kuniholm, co-chair of Fair Districts PA, who will update us on where we stand and where we’re heading in 2019.
This is open to all Berks County constituents. Join us as we move forward into 2019.
A $5 donation is requested. Beverages and pastries will be served, and yard signs and buttons will be available at no charge.
