Marcy (Stauffer) Behr, center, recently received the 2019 PIAA Competitive Spirit Cheerleading Championship Coaches Award.

Marcy (Stauffer) Behr, formally of Gilbertsville, has received the 2019 PIAA Competitive Spirit Cheerleading Championship Coaches Award. Behr is the daughter of Karl and Donna Stauffer and is a 1990 graduate of Boyertown High School. The award was given out at the PIAA Cheerleading State Finals Competition in Hershey.

At present Behr is coach of the Pocono Mountain West Senior High School Cheering squad with 44 cheerleaders on her team. She averages 40 to 44 girls on her varsity squad each year and 25 to 30 on the JV squad with over 100 girls for tryouts in the spring.

Behr has been a special education teacher in the Pocono Mountain School District for 24 years.

She is the head cheerleading coach for those 24 years and is also the Special Education Department head. Her involvement with the school and community is insurmountable.

She plays a role in nearly every event, fundraiser and school activity. Behr is the epitome of commitment and dedication. She maintains a rigorous practice schedule for her cheerleaders from the first week of August and continues throughout the entire school year.

She and her squad have earned numerous accolades during her tenure. Her team earned the District XI Championship title in 2006, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, MVP Champions in 2012 and 2013 and state qualifiers every year since 2012.

She has earned the deepest respect from her student-athletes, faculty members and the surrounding community. She has built a model program that will leave a lasting legacy.
