The Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance will recognize the 2019 award winners Thursday, May 16, at its annual awards celebration.
The association is the local affiliate of the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Inc., which is the professional association for all health and physical educators in Pennsylvania. The mission of the association is to “...provide leadership, advocacy and professional development to health and physical educators for overall wellness in Pennsylvania.”
The educators recognized impact the social, mental/emotional and physical well being of children in the Lancaster, Lebanon, and Berks counties on a daily basis. The association acknowledges and celebrates those educators doing outstanding work in the fields of health and physical education by honoring them with local association awards. Awards are presented after careful consideration from the association Awards Committee and Executive Board.
The association Teacher of the Year Award recognizes health and physical education professionals who conduct an exemplary program, utilize various teaching methodologies, plan innovative learning experiences, serve as a professional role model in the field, participate in professional development opportunities beyond district provided opportunities, and provide service to the profession.
The local Berks County 2019 award recipients are:
• Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year — Diana Bogust, Exeter School District
• Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year — Bo Shappell, Daniel Boone School District
• Arnold B. Fink Memorial Award is the highest honor and recognizes a health and physical education professional who has been innovative in the health and physical education field — Recipient is Lucie Bergoyova, Boyertown Area School District
