A basket party brings new experiences to Gilbertsville Elementary School students.
The Boyertown Area School District has announced that the Gilbertsville Elementary School Home School Association has raised more than $17,000 through their spring basket party to support the students at their school.
The HAS funds have historically been used for projects such as new playground equipment, technology, and expanded classroom libraries. Community members, school staff and students, and local businesses contributed baskets and donated items for the basket party. Two of the more unique offerings were 'Fire Truck Ride to School' and 'Principal for a Day.'
On Friday, April 4, GES students Jaxon and Elizabeth Kline and Brendan, Ethan, and Noah Cutillo had quite the adventure when they rode to school on a New Hanover Fire Company fire truck. Students were greeted by their classmates as they pulled up to the school with sirens on and lights flashing to announce their arrival. The fire company also donated numerous fire safety themed toys and videos to their basket.
Second grader Natalie Frey gained the opportunity to be 'Principal for a Day' when her mother's ticket was selected from all of the entries at the basket party. On April 11, she will assist Gilbertsville Elementary Principal Stephanie Landis in many duties throughout the day, including making announcements, visiting classrooms, and helping with bus duty. She will also enjoy a special lunch in her honor and will visit central administration at the district's Education Center.
