OLEY - A proposed vertical expansion of the Rolling Hills Landfill in Earl Township will be the subject of a special meeting scheduled for May 15 in Oley.

The meeting, which will be held at the Oley Fair Centre on Jefferson Street, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be facilitated by the Oley Township supervisors and members of the Delaware County Solid Waste Authority, owners of the landfill.

DCSWA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Joseph W. Vasturia recently approached the Oley Township supervisors seeking their support of the expansion, which he said will add 90 vertical feet and nearly three years of life to the landfill.

In response, the supervisors said that public input was necessary before making a final decision and scheduled the May 15 meeting. 'This is an informational meeting for the people of the township,' supervisor James Coker said at the April 9 supervisors' meeting.

Expected at the meeting are representatives of the Pennsylvania Historic Museum Commission, who will have the final word on the expansion..

The landfill was last expanded in 1990, when the height limit was raised to 884 vertical feet. This brought the landfill into clear view of Oley Township. At that time, owners of the landfill sought and received the support of Oley supervisors for the expansion.
