The Bridge Church in Hamburg hosted The Royal Ranger Derby, a Pinewood Derby for the church’s boys program called Royal Rangers.
Held at the Hamburg Field House, between 250 to 300 people attended the free community event on Feb. 26 that featured derby races, concession stand and inflatables for small children.
Grand Champions, which were the top three from each category, were Cole McLaughlin, Deb Brady and Mackenzie Brady. People’s Choice winners were Cael Breslin, Lexeano Kelleher and Chase Desiderio.
“The Royal Ranger Derby is a fun family event where we gather to race derby cars,” said The Bridge Church Children’s Pastor Nate Wiles. “Royal Rangers is a mentoring program for future men. We provide Christlike character formation and servant leadership development for boys and young men in a highly relational and fun environment. Our mission is to evangelize, equip, and empower the next generation of Christlike men and lifelong servant leaders. We use this event to both highlight the Ranger program and also bring people together and enjoy being in community with one another.”
People of all ages participated.
“For instance Cael Breslin is 2 years old and then we had people in their 60s competing, as well,” he said. “Our major focus was to reach out to people who wouldn’t normally have been involved in this type of event. We wanted to create a fun and safe place for people to come enjoy good food and racing.”
Vreeland Wood and Jake Wood from Team Repozest Racing brought their dragsters for the kids and adults to look at.
“It was a great evening!” he said.
Local businesses supported the event, including Clover Farms, Dutch Maid Bakery and Berks Hot Dogs.
