The fourth annual Carousel of Flavor will return to downtown Pottstown on Sunday, Sept. 16 when High Street and Smith Family Plaza will be infused once again with the smells and sights of the area's finest restaurants competing for the honor of best-in-show.The festival full of the area's finest cuisine will help raise money for the Carousel at Pottstown Exhibition Center,.

As the talentsed chef's of the regions showcase a few dishes in sample-size portions, guests will enjoy tasting a little bit of everything from noon to 4 p.m.

"Each year, this event just keeps getting better and better" said Jeff Richardson, the Carousel at Pottstown's vice president of finance and the event's primary organizer.

More than a dozen area eateries have signed up to participate in the event that will be held in the green and popular public space facing Pottstown's proud brick Borough Hall at 100 High St.

They range in cuisine from area stalwarts like Lakeside Inn, to the quirky and unique Funky Lil' Kitchen to new arrivals like the Grace Caribbean Kitchen. Also you can always tantalize your pallet with a taste of the grape at Weitzenkorn's where Blair's Winery will offer selected vintages.

Sample new dishes with tickets sold for between $2 and $5.

Of course, some judging carries more weight than others. In this case, it will be the judging by the students from Montgomery County Community College's Culinary Arts program who decide this year's "Best Appetizer," "Best Main Dish," "Best Dessert" and "Best-Decorated Space."

So the restaurants will not only be competing for your patronage, but also with each other.

This year's battle of the restaurants is sponsored by National Penn Bank.

The entire event itself is sponsored this year by The Mercury, Pottstown's community newspaper.

The entire event will be broadcast on 107.5 Frank FM and B-101 FM radio stations.

The following restaurants have committed to participating in this year's Carousel of Flavor:

The Johnson Kitchen, The Pour House, Havana Joe's, Lakeside Inn, Taste of Italy, Causal Gourmet, Grace Caribbean, Railroad Street, Bause Landry Catering, Frank's Flamin, T's, Vincenzo's Italian Market, Cafe Mosaic, Blair Winery, Parktowne Plaza, Funky Lil' Kitchen, That's Italian 2.
