Happy Birthday Aunt Lillian!!!!!
A great egret, an endangered species in Pennsylvania, recently visited the backyard pond of Michelle Anderson of Boyertown.
Attached to the rare bird is a tracking device on his leg, providing valuable information about the territories it visits to researchers.
The only known nesting areas in the state are along the Susquehanna River's Wade Island.
The beautiful bird was nearly made extinct in the early 1900's for its feathers.
The National Audubon Society was founded largely in part to protect this bird, Anderson writes.
