State Senator Michael A. O'Pake, Democratic Chairman of the State Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, recently announced that three local community fairs have been awarded state grants totaling more than $35,000 through the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Agricultural Fair Program.O'Pake explained that the Kutztown Fair will receive a $16,250 grant to help pay for the paving of the final half of the midway, install four steel doors on the main exhibition building, pave an area at the Wash Rack, and replace wooden doors in the restaurant.

The Kuztown Fair will also receive a $16,250 grant to fence the fairgrounds from entryway to Pole Barns, according to O'Pake. And the Oley Valley Community Fair will receive $2,635 to replace six garage doors of various buildings on the Oley Fair grounds.

The Agricultural Fair Grant Program is part the Commonwealth's ongoing efforts to support agriculture, one of Pennsylvania's most important industries.
