Wins division title The Daniel Boone High School boys' basketball team clinched the Division 2 title last week as they enjoyed a perfect four wins in four games. The Blazers finished the regular season with a league record of 10-2 and head into the Berks playoffs with an overall record of 18-4.The Blazers opened the Berks playoffs with a quarterfinal round contest with Oley Valley at Governor Mifflin Intermediate School. The semi-finals are on Wednesday, February 6, at the Sovereign Center, and the championship game is on Friday, February 8, at 8 p.m. at the Sovereign Center.
On Thursday, January 21, Daniel Boone's Jeff Sowers joined the 1,000 point club as he reached the career mark with 2:54 remaining in the game. Sowers had 16 points in the game to lead the Blazers to a 55-51 victory over Exeter in Reiffton.
Gavin Williams chipped in with 14 points while Zach Benjamin had 12 and Dan Sekulski added seven.
Daniel Boone won the junior varsity game, 48-45.
On Tuesday, January 29, the Blazers played host to Twin Valley. The Blazers outscored the Raiders all four quarters in a 79-70 victory.
The Blazers held a 17-14 lead after one quarter, and led at half-time, 34-30. Twin Valley pulled to within one in the fourth quarter, but the Blazers were able to pull away with the victory.
Dan Sekulski was the high scorer for the Blazers with 25 points in the contest. Jeff Sowers contributed 17 points while Gavin Williams had 15 points and Kyle Yarmush had 10. Jimmy McCarthy added eight points.
Daniel Boone won the junior varsity game, 57-52.
On Saturday, January 26, the the Blazers traveled to Muhlenberg. Thanks to a good start the Blazers came away with a 67-52 win which clinched the Division 2 championship.
Daniel Boone jumped out to a 19-10 lead and remained on top at halftime, 35-29. But the Blazers pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring the Muhls, 14-7.
Sowers led the way with 19 points for the Blazers, while Williams had 16 points and Sekulski had 13 points. Yarmush bucketed 11 points.
Muhlenberg won the junior varsity game, 41-40.
Earlier in the week, the Blazers clinched a playoff spot when they played host and defeated Conrad Weiser, 65-62.
Daniel Boone jumped out to a 26-14 lead and were never headed.
Sowers led the Daniel Boone Blazers with 20 points in the game. Sekulski helped the cause with 14 points, while McCarthy had 13 points and Zach Benjamin contributed 12 points.
Daniel Boone won the junior varsity game, 54-40.
