An investigation into a fire that heavily damaged the Spring Township home of a Berks County entertainer continues, officials said Dec. 15.
At about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, crews responded to flames at the rear of the house in the 1800 block of South Mountain Drive.
The investigation is complicated, and it could take until midweek to determine how the fire started, officials said.
There is still no damage estimate.
The home is the residence of Dave Kline, a former executive with the defunct Reading Eagle Company.
Kline was out of the area with his wife, Kathy, when a neighbor called him to say the house was on fire.
A six-month-old Great Pyrenees mix puppy and a cat both perished in the fire.
Officials said three adults were displaced, but the name of the third adult was not available.
One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and was sent to a local hospital for treatment. Officials didn't name the firefighter.
