Fleetwood police arrested a 56-year-old borough man after receiving allegations that he had sexually assaulted a boy, now 17, almost daily for a few years, grooming the teen with alcohol and cigarettes.

The assaults began when the boy was about 13 and ended about two years ago, police said. The victim’s mother called police after a friend of the victim said the teen had disclosed the abuse by Michael A. Swavely, 56, who was known to the family.

Swavely of the 100 block of Chestnut Street was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail following arraignment Friday night before Senior District Judge Nicholas M. Bentz Jr. in Reading Central Court.

Swavely faces charges of sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors and related counts.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Dec. 22, the boy's mother contacted Police Chief Steven J. Stinsky after she learned Swavely had sexually abused her son for several years.

The victim said the abuse started in 2014 in Swavely's basement, which Swavely referred to as the dungeon. He said Swavely would grope him and perform a sex act on him.

He said it went on daily for years. He kept returning to Swavely’s home because he had become addicted to nicotine from the steady supply of cigarettes Swavely provided. He also drank beer provided by Swavely.

Stinsky spoke with Swavely on Dec. 24 and Swavely admitted to the accusations.
