Despite a windy day, 15 volunteers turned out and pitched in for a successful Friends Of Kaercher Creek Fall cleanup event on Nov. 3.

Some new faces joined familiar ones, including two high schoolers who were there to obtain some community service hours needed for various programs. Also participating, a gentleman from the Berks County Master Watershed Steward Program via the Berks County Agricultural Center. He was there for community service hours, as well.

The group conducted grass mowing, leaf blowing and raking, weed pulling, trimming back sticker bushes, picking up downed tree limbs, branches, litter and removing dead tree limbs overhanging the walking path. A shore lunch was provided for all those participating.

With the cooperation of PA Fish & Boat, we plan to hold a Spring cleanup around Earth Day in April. Our events are a great way for those seeking community service hours to obtain some.
