Sharing Poetry in Boyertown-a Monthly Event at Hard Bean CafÃ&Copy;
Boyertown's Hard Bean CafÃ&Copy; hosts a variety of opportunities for the community to meet, learn, exercise, and share one another's passions. Long-time resident and lover of language Jodi Corbett serves as coordinator of a special group in love with words.
Second Thursdays of each month the group meets to read their work and, thus, share their lives and experiences. An open mic begins at 7 p.m. and poets and prose writers read their work or a favorite author's work for five to seven minutes.
The group represents all ages and stages of life and includes poets from nearby Boyertown and Gilbertsville as well as Reading and Allentown. Their work includes narrative poetry along with autobiographical memoirs composed in rhyming and free verse. Anything goes.
Corbett is looking to expand the meetings to include featured, well-known readers. Alliances include Berks Bards and during National Poetry Month, the Hard Bean Cafe will host a regional poet as part of Bard Fest 2009.
The group's scheduled meetings include Feb. 12, March 12, Apr. 16 (third Thursday) May 14, and June 11. Hard Bean CafÃ&Copy; is located at 128 East Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown. Contact Luke Kasitz, community out-reach director at Hard Bean CafÃ&Copy;, firstname.lastname@example.org, 610-484-941-2450, with questions.
Classes to explore writing, speaking and literary art are being considered for Boyertown's new art studio Studio B, 39A East Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown, for the Spring Session, beginning mid-March. Contact Corbett at email@example.com or call 610-367-8066 to express interest in participating.
