Police responded to a fatal crash that occurred on South 3rd Street in Hamburg on Friday morning, at about 11:08 a.m., on Jan. 4. The Berks County Coroner was called to the scene.
The Berks County Coroner's Office confirmed Monday that the identity of the fatality as John Sterner, 66, of Hamburg. Cause of death, which was ruled a natural death, was determined to be probable myocardial infarction, or heart attack.
Hamburg Borough Police Chief Anthony M. Kuklinski reported that the driver of the Ford Taurus, John Sterner, was traveling north on South Third Street toward State Street. A medical condition arose and he lost control of the vehicle striking two parked vehicles along South 3rd Street near Washing Street.
"This was an tragic isolated incident that was an accident," said Kuklinski.
Sterner was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Berks County Coroner Office. The passenger in the Ford Taurus was treated and released at the scene.
