Helen S. Mood, 98, a resident of the Lutheran Community@Telford since Aug. 25, 1986, formerly of Quakertown, died Sat. Aug. 16 in her residence. She was the wife of the late H. Luther Mood.Helen was born July 15, 1910 in Emmaus, daughter of the late Stuart C. and Alice (Albright) Schaffer.

She was a 1928 graduate of Quakertown High School and graduated in 1930 from the West Chester Normal School, now University. Helen taught in the Quakertown elementary schools from 1930-45. In 1948 she became choir director and organist at Trinity Lutheran Church, Quakertown where she has been a member since 1925. In 1960 she accepted the position of choir director and assistant organist for St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Perkasie, continuing there until 1985. From 1985-1999 she served as a substitute organist for 18 churches in Upper Bucks.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Quakertown Women's Club, and an honorary member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs for 50 yrs.

She was a longtime volunteer for the Quakertown 'Meals on Wheels' program and the Lutheran Community@Telford.

Being predeceased by her husband and an infant son, she is survived by her care-givers, niece Zoe Mood Buhosky and husband Bernard, Orefield; nephews, Craig l. Schaffer, Rapid City, SD and Thomas E. Mood, Camp Hill; niece Wilberta E. Mood, Camp Hill and 5 other nieces; 3 great-nephews; cousins; and longtime friend, Gladys Christman, also a resident at the Lutheran Community@Telford.

Funeral services will be held 3 Pm Sat. Aug. 23 in the Chapel of the Lutheran Community@Telford. A calling hour from 2-3 pm will precede the service. Interment will be in Moravian Cemetery, Emmaus. Memorial contributions should be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Quakertown or the Lutheran Community@Telford.
