The Heritage of Green Hills in Shillington held a Groundhog Day party on Feb. 1 — a day early — so they could get their end of winter/beginning of spring prediction on the record before Punxsutawney Phil makes his appearance on Feb. 2.
Residents of the community gathered as the groundhog began his visit outside. He did NOT see his shadow, so spring is imminent.
In anticipation of a spring prediction, residents were given flowers. They also noshed on hot dogs, groundhog-shaped cookies (made by Punxsutawney native Barbara Willar, now a resident of The Heritage) and hot cocoa.
The groundhog is portrayed by Heritage employee T.J. Bebb, and his handlers are Kerry Williard, The Heritage’s plant operations director, and Barry Readinger, a member of The Heritage’s maintenance crew.
