National Lampoon's "Christmas Vacation" may have set the gold standard for exterior illumination, but a number of Leesport residents gave Chevy Chase a run for his money.
This year, more than 20 homeowners in the borough entered the reboot of the once popular holiday decorating contest. Organized by the Leesport Borough Recreation Board and sponsored by Mary Brickner with RE/Max of Reading, participants competed not just for bragging rights and a “Winner” yard sign, but for cash, too.
On Dec. 19, a team of judges made their way through the streets and gazed at all the entries. One thing became perfectly clear, the decisions were going to be tough. Animated angels, hundreds of inflatables characters, and thousands of white and colored lights lite up the sky over Leesport. Possibly more decorating done than ever before.
