Miss Maille McNicholas, age 11, of Morgantown, was selected out of 90 contestants ages 10-12 as a Top Ten Finalist in the 2018 National American Miss Pennsylvania Pre-Teen Pageant held August 11 and 12 at the Hilton Harrisburg and Towers in Harrisburg.
This is the fourth year Miss McNicholas has participated in this annual pageant and the second time placing as a Title Finalist.
Pageant contestants are judged in four categories for the Title, Formal Wear, Personal Introduction, Personal Interview and Community Service.
In addition to the honor of being selected as a finalist, Miss McNicholas also was chosen by the judges as “Most Promising Model,” and placed in several optional competitions.
Miss McNicholas won a $300 cash prize for her First Place finish in the Top Model Search, a competition in which she had 10 minutes to perform in a photo shoot with a professional photographer. She also placed First Runner up in Talent, Casual Wear Modeling, and Photogenic.
Miss McNicholas’ talent entry was a lyrical dance choreographed by local dance teacher and Studio Owner of ReMix Dance Collective, Liza Grundy. Maille has been a member of the ReMix Competition Dance Team for the past three years.
Her dance solo, to the song “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera was awarded first runner up. For her first runner up award in Photogenic, Miss McNicholas submitted a portfolio of four photos taken by local photographer, Lee Shelly of Lee Shelly Photography.
As a result of her success at the State Pageant, Maille has been invited to participate in the National Pageant in Anaheim, California this November, where pageant contestants receive an exciting complimentary Tour of Hollywood and a special trip to Disneyland®.
The National American Miss Pageants are unlike any other. All activities and competitions are age-appropriate. Girls under the age of 12 are not allowed to wear makeup, and there is no swimsuit competition.
The Pageant program is based on inner-beauty, as well as poise and presentation, and offers an “All-American spirit of fun for family and friends.”
Emphasis is put on the importance of developing self-confidence, learning good sportsmanship, as well as setting and achieving personal goals. The Pageant recognizes the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for her future.
