A two-alarm blaze gutted a Union Township barn Sunday afternoon.
Crews were dispatched to the fire at 8 Six Penny Lane at 3:57 p.m.
According to Steve Dragon, public information officer for the Birdsboro Fire Department:
Crews had the fire under control in about 40 minutes.
The biggest problem was access to water to fight the fire. Firefighters used a relay system with a holding tank and pumps to get water to the barn on a dirt road about a half-mile off Route 345.
Crews from several Berks and Montgomery County fire departments responded with tankers and other apparatus.
No one was in the barn when the fire broke out, and no one was injured.
The barn was used for storage only, and no animals were inside.
A damage estimate and information on the cause of the fire were not immediately available.
The state police fire marshal is to assist the township fire marshal with the investigation.
