The Berks County Coroner’s Office has issued a certificate of natural death for a Kutztown University graduate student from the Midwest whose body was found in her residence hall room on campus in November.
The coroner’s office ruled the death of Hannah M. Varn, 31, of Marion, Iowa, was due to natural causes after it received the final autopsy report from a pathologist, Acting Coroner Jonn M. Hollenbach said Tuesday.
Campus police responded shortly after 9 p.m. Nov. 12 to Dixon Hall after resident assistants conducted a welfare check on Varn because her family reported they had not heard from her in about a week, authorities said. The resident assistants called campus police after finding her dead.
Deputy Coroner Sarah Shivers pronounced Varn dead at 10:50 p.m.
Varn was a graduate student majoring in arts administration, university officials said. She was in her first semester.
Kutztown University held a memorial vigil for Varn on Nov. 16 on Alumni Plaza. About 200 people attended, and her aunt spoke on behalf of the family.
