Pleasantville Covered Bridge in Oley Township reopened Thursday afternoon after being closed for repair since Jan. 19. The bridge is in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Pleasantville Covered Bridge in Oley Township reopened Thursday after being closed since Jan. 19 after a safety bar was dislodged by a high-profile vehicle.

Contractor Mar-Allen Concrete Products Inc. of Ephrata placed reflective tape on the safety bars to help motorists see the bridge.

The bridge closed just after 7 a.m. Jan. 19 after an unidentified resident notified police that one of the two height-restriction bars was struck and blocking the south side of the county-owned bridge on Covered Bridge Road.

The county on Monday hired the contractor to repair the safety bar and other damages. The estimated repair cost is $20,000.

Covered Bridge Road connects motorists from Route 662 to Route 73. The bridge is 126 feet long, crossing the Manatawny Creek.

Warning signs alert motorists that the height limit for vehicles crossing the bridge is 10 feet 5 inches.
