Police in Berks plan extra patrols on St. Patrick's Day weekend

A Berks County man was charged with attempting to break into a Tilden Township business on three different occasions, police said.

Preston W. Zito, 34, of Hamburg was charged Monday with multiple counts of felony attempted burglary, felony criminal trespass, theft and criminal mischief, township police said Friday.

Zito is currently in Berks County Prison on unrelated charges.

According to police:

Employees from Nester’s Sanitation called police on Jan. 6 that someone attempted to break into the business around 2:17 a.m. The suspect spray painted a surveillance camera and attempted to enter through a door but was unsuccessful.

Police were contacted on Jan. 7 that the someone attempted to enter the business through the door at 6:21 a.m. This time, the lightbulb above the door was taken.

Police were contacted again on Jan. 14 by employees of Nester’s Sanitation that the man attempted to break into the business on Jan. 12 around 3:53 a.m.

The suspect removed a lightbulb above a door, and as he was doing so an employee pulled up to the business. The suspect then screwed the lightbulb back in and left.
