Sen. Michael O'Pake (D-11) presented assisted living community, Manor at Market Square, Reading, with a proclamation dedicated to National Assisted Living Week on Thursday, Sept. 11."2008 marks the 14th National Assisted Living Week, which recognizes Sept. 7-13. This week is to honor the exceptional involvement of families, providers, volunteers and individuals from the local community who together foster a truly caring spirit," said Rick Knerr, Director of Resident Life.

This year's theme was "Filling Life with Love." The theme praises individuals who are involved with assisted living facilities and those their serve.

O'Pake said he was at the community to recognize the residents who live in "nice" families like Manor at Market Square and also the staff.

"If the staff is caring, compassionate, and concerned about your welfare, that is the main thing in these kind of assisted living facilities," said O'Pake.

The senator presented the proclamation to Knerr after reading it to the residents of the facility.

"This [proclamation] was adopted in the Senate on July 8, 2008, whereas staff, volunteers, residents, families and friends of

Manor of Market Square are celebrating the 14th Annual National assisted Living Week, Filling Life with Love, from Sept. 7-13, 2008," said O'Pake reading the document.

According to the proclamation, "the caregivers of the Manor of Market Square provide the approximately 90 residents of their facility with skill and compassion. That commitment to providing quality care creates a community that optimizes the physical and social well being of each resident and provides piece of mind to the family and friends who know that the needs of their love ones are well cared for."

"The staff, residents and friends of the Manor at Market Square have become a close knit family that creates a structural home-like atmosphere," said the document.
