Around 85 people attended the grand opening of Berks County's newest non-medical home care service, Utopia Home Care Inc., on Friday, July 25.The new location at 420 Park Rd., Wyomissing, is part of a larger family owned and operated chain of care centers developed by the Martinez family over the last 25 years.

The company began in New York and currently they have numerous offices in Florida, Connecticut, South Carolina and now Pennsylvania.

And with the senior population growing in Berks County, Utopia offers residents personal care while making them feel independent.

"Pennsylvania has the second oldest population. Berks County has one of the oldest populations in Pennsylvania," said Peter Giatrelis, administrator of Wyomissing's Utopia.

A Connecticut native, Giatrelis, 27, relocated to Berks County in October. From talking to county residents, he has found that individuals leave Berks but some how "make their way back."

Wyomissing's Utopia has around 20 personal care employees as well as RN nurse and supervisor of clinical services, Karen Emerich, and staff aide Lisa Thomas.

Services they provide include: bathing, dressing, errands, feeding, grooming, grocery shopping, meal preparation, ambulation and transfers and more.

Giatrelis, who has been working with the company for two years, said the patients Utopia cares for range from geriatrics to individuals with alzheimers.

Utopia Home Care Inc. is located at 420 N. Park Rd, Suite 202, Wyomissing.
