Brandywine 8th grader competes in Miss Pa Jr-Teen

Brandywine Heights Middle School eighth grader Samantha Evangelista has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Pennsylvania State pageant to be held Aug. 12 and 13 in Harrisburg.

This pageant is for girls 4 - 18 and have five different age divisions. The Topton 13 year old will be competing in the Jr-Teen age division against other young ladies across the state. This is her first pageant. She was asked to interview and was accepted to compete in states. For her talent, she will be singing 'On my Own' from Les Miserables.

'I thought it would be a great experience and a great way to make new friends from all around the state,' said Samantha.

How doesshe feel about competing?

'Excited!' She is looking forward to the acting, talent and formal wear competitions, as well as 'Making new friends, and showcasing my talents.'

Challenges? 'I'm expecting very long days. There is so much to do through out the day,' she said.

The National American Miss pageants keeps all activities and competitions at age appropriate levels. The pageant program is based on inner-beauty as well as poise and presentation and offers an 'All-American spirit of fun for family and friends'. Emphasis is put on the importance of gaining self confidence, learning food sportsmanship and setting and achieving personal goals. The pageant recognizes the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for her future.

Samantha will be competing in Talent, Acting and Photogenic.

From this experience, she hopes to gain 'self confidence and improve public speaking.'

'Most of all,I just want to have fun,' said Samantha.
