Calendar: What's happening?

Recurring Centerport Lions Club. Jamming Sessions will be held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Music starts at 5:30 p.m. All musicians welcome.

Senior Citizens Club of Hamburg. The Hamburg Seniors meet at 2 p.m. each Wednesday in the Hamburg Area Middle School cafeteria. If school is canceled on the meeting day because of bad weather, the meeting is canceled.

Hamburg Public Library story time. The Hamburg Public Library hosts story times most Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. The story time is performed by Story Rider Miss Joy for toddlers ages 0 to 3 and at 11 a.m. there is a pre-school story time for those ages 3 to 6. With the stories are often songs and crafts that go along with the day's theme.

There are story times for older preschool and upper elementary children on every other Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. hosted by children's librarian Miss Donna.

We also have a board of trustees meeting the second Tuesday of each month (except July) at 6 p.m. at the library. The public is invited.

Chestnut Knoll Assisted Living hosts a monthly family support group for those who are coping with Alzheimer's disease. It is affiliated with the Alzheimer's Association and is held on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

June 15-30 Berks County's Best Kept Secrets Tour, a shopping adventure featuring 35 off-the-beaten path businesses. You'll travel place to place enjoying all the special free things (refreshments, gifts, demos, etc.) the businesses have planned for you. Plus, each place has given you a valuable coupon. You'll be delighted by what you find in the countryside! A portion of each ticket is donated to Berks Women in Crisis.

June 16 Strawbery Festival held by St. John's Church, Hamburg, at the Hamburg Field House, 3-8 p.m. Music by Jalappa All Stars.

Bern Reformed U.C.C. annual Strawberry Festival in the church grove, Route 183, Bernville Road, June 16. Music from 5 to 8 p.m. by the Wyomissing Band. Good food, refreshments and home baked goods on sale 3:30 to 8 p.m.

June 18-22 Vacation Bible School, 9 a.m. to noon at Zion's Lutheran Church, next to the Perry Golf Course in Perry Township. This year's theme is Gold Rush – Discovering the Rock of Ages, Digging Deeper. During the week we will meet Noah, Joseph, the prophets, Peter and dig deeper. Ages four to adult are invited. Tilden's 125th Anniversary Celebration, 1-7:30 p.m. Rain or shine. The event will be held behind the Tilden Township Municipal Building (874 Hex Highway). Free entertainment by Keystone Mountain Way, Betty Naftzinger, Blue Mountain Junction and the Jalappa All-Stars.

There will be special appearances by Tilden's namesake, Samuel Tilden; and Tilden's own Berks County Commissioner, and the newly crowned Berks County Dairy Princess.

Food will be provided by two local Lion's Clubs, country churches and the Northern 4-H Dairy Club.

There will be activities for kids, old fashioned cake walk for adults and presentation of door prizes.
