District Township officials dedicated 17 acres of woodland adjacent to township-owned land, increasing open park space and natural area.
The total area of open park space and natural area is nearly 75 acres.
The 17 acres was purchased by District Township along with a grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and a donation from the Fischer family.
During the annual District Township Community Day picnic at the park, officials celebrated the extension of the natural area with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 25. Attendees included District Township Supervisors and Environmental Advisory Council members, as well as State Sen. Judy Schwank and State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie.
Community Day featured the Seisholtzville and Eastern Berks Fire companies, along with an antique car display and performances by the country and bluegrass band Hannah Violet Trio. The event was free.
