It could be a very good season for the Fleetwood High School golf team this fall. The Tigers have a team full of juniors and sophomores, yet they are very experienced. After finishing 9-3 last year in the Berks League, the Tigers are looking to get even better as they have their top three golfers back again.
'I feel that we should be competitive within our division and have the opportunity to make the county playoffs.' said Head Coach Mark Coassolo. 'If we play to our ability, se have an excellent chance of reaching the goal.'
The team finished the 2011 season with a flourish, winning their final six matches. The goal is to continue where they left off last year. Many of the players on that team will be back again this season so the team confidence is high.
The Tigers are led by a trio of juniors. Eric Wiley was the number one player on last year's team and he is expected to do the same, and even improve his game. Nate Reinert and Sam Mille will also be back and they will be a tough trio to beat.
Those are theree good players who are battle tested in the Berks League. The question then is what other players on the team can do. They just need a couple of players to step up their game and a division crown will be well within their reach.
The team plays well at their home course, but Coach Coassolo wants his team to play better on the road. 'If we can play well at home and contend on the road, we will be fine,' said Coassolo.
Whether the Tigers win a division title is a question yet to be answered. But they will have a team that will keep them in contention to the very end. It should be a fun season.
