More than 4,000 witches, butterflies, zombies, ghouls, angels and everything in between crowded along Main Street in Kutztown Wednesday night.

Kutztown Community Partnership Executive Director Geoff Brace said an estimate of about 4,050 people attended the annual Downtown Trick or Treat Night. This number includes more than 225 Kutztown University student volunteers from 19 student organizations.

Brace said about 2,500 people attended last year's event, which was called Merchant Trick or Treat Night.

'Thanks to Ron Rozansky, CPA and Steve Drasher of State Farm Insurance, Kutztown Optimists, Kutztown University Off Campus Advisory Council and the Borough of Kutztown, we had record crowds for this event,' said Brace.

Garret Miller of the Kutztown Optimist said, 'It was a great night, great weather, everything's turned out wonderful.'

Miller's favorite part was seeing the children's excitement.

'I'm with the Kutztown Optimists and we're all about the children,' he said.

'This is a great way for the community to come together, college students, elementary students, middle school students, it's so positive,' said Beth Patten, Blandon, a Kutztown Middle School teacher.

This was her first time attending. She and her son, Harrison, 8 months, dressed in togas and entered the Cutest Baby costume contest. She said her students were always excited about the event but she never knew that it was such a big event.

'It's so spirited, I'love it,' said Patten.

'People get a oneness with the community. Everybody knows everybody,' said Miller. 'We come out in a safe environment with all the streets closed off.'

Main Street was closed from Constitution Blvd. to College Blvd.

'Parents can mingle and it's just a really good time,' said Miller. 'There's thousands of people here.'

'Tonight, Kutztown was the place to be,' Brace said. 'Congratulations to the costume contest winners and we are excited to watch this event grown again in 2012.'
