The Kutztown Rotary Club and the Fleetwood Rotary Club will host their annual Rural Urban Night on Feb. 3.
'We're blessed with great natural resources here. It's a business we as Rotarians want to celebrate,' said Rotarian Bob Hobaugh.
Agriculture is an important industry in Pennsylvania, he said.
Rotary is a service organization. One of the service areas is to celebrate vocational service through Rural Urban Night.
Held at The Inn at Moselem Springs at 7 p.m., the more than 20-year-old event honors and thanks farmers from the Kutztown, Fleetwood and Topton areas. Also attending will be Kutztown and Fleetwood Rotary members and students of the month who are involved in agriculture.
Tentatively scheduled to attend are State Senators Gary Day and Mike O'Pake; Mike McCarthy, Rotary district governor of district 7430; Sheila Miller, Berks County Agricultural Coordinator; and representatives from local Granges, including Kutztown, Fleetwood, Topton and Virginville.
Speaking on 'Discussing the challenges and opportunities of going forward' will be Dennis C. Wolff, former Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture, who now works for Versant Strategies, a lobbying organization for agriculture.
'He's a farmer who ably led us with our department of agriculture,' said Hobaugh.
Wolff last spoke at Rural Urban Night in 2005.
'I'm so glad he's coming back to talk to us,' said Hobaugh. 'There's a buzz in the air. People are looking forward to it.'
This event is not open to the public. If there are any farmers from the Kutztown, Fleetwood and Topton areas who are interested in attending and have not received an invitation, contact Rotarian Larry Biehl at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 610-562-3374.
