Shoemakersville Borough Council agreed to buy a one-year warranty extension for the borough's two water meter readers at a cost of $1,275 on June 3,
The warranty for the case-unit which can read meters from a distance and a hand-held unit will cost $850 and $425, respectively.
The warranty includes a five-day turnaround for repair work.
Councilman Joe Wertz, Jr. noted that one of the units was recently in need of repair which will cause some borough residents to be billed for a two-month period while other residents will be billed for four months.
In other news, council agreed to accept a land development plan for review from Sheetz.
The company plans to make renovations to its store front and add a small enclosed cafe, according to borough engineer Brad Smith.
In other news, council agreed to a $5 fee to be paid to the borough's tax collector for residents requesting duplicates.
Council also plans to fill positions by mid-month for road crew supervisor, maintenance associates and part-time road crew summer help, according to Councilman Mark Kimmel.
The next council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1 at 7 p.m. at St. Luke's Church.
