The 37th annual Flag Day concert will be presented, rain or shine, in the Kutztown Park bandshell on June 12, at 7:30 p.m. The Pennsylvania German Symphonette, conducted by Dr. Willis Rapp, chair of the music department at Kutztown University, will open the musical portion of the program with selections of light classical and popular music. The Kutztown Community Choir, directed by J. Richard Wagner, will sing selections from the music of Disney shows. Glenn Godshall, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 560, Kutztown, will give welcoming remarks. In keeping with the patriotic theme of the evening, the color guard of the Ray A. Master Post 217 American Legion of Topton will present the colors and the audience will join in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and singing of the Star Spangled Banner. Flags will be on display, courtesy of local vexilologist, Richard Kelchner, who will comment on the 37 star flags. The audience will be invited to join in a sing-a-long of several familiar patriotic songs and veterans in the audience will be recognized during the 'Armed Forces Salute.' The combined orchestra and choir will present 'Festival of Freedom,' and the program will close with John Philip Sousa's ever popular 'Stars and Stripes Forever.' There is no admission charge. An offering will be received in support of the program. For more information, please call 610-683-3437.
