Police reported the following:Missing person in Tulpehocken Township
On Aug. 07, Gene Bender, 68, Womelsdorf walked away from 29 Witman Road, Harmony Hills Assisted Living Facility. Bender is described as a white male, 5 ft. 7 in., approx. 160 pounds, last seen wearing light colored blue jean, blue canvas shoes, and a button-down tan and white collared shirt. Bender was last seen on Witman Road, heading toward Host Road. It is believed that Bender may be attempting to travel to the Mechanicsburg area. Bender is diabetic and suffers from memory loss. Vehicle crash in Centre Township
On August 23, a vehicle operated by Robert Sweigart, 26, Mohrsville, was traveling west on Berne Road when he lost control, striking several trees, before coming to final rest on the roof of his vehicle against a tree. Sweigart fled the scene and was later apprehended.
On August 24, Pa. State Police conducted a Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Driving initiative. This program is designed to facilitate the reduction of alcohol-related traffic crashes through the use of sobriety checkpoints and DUI saturation roving patrols at predetermined locations throughout the Commonwealth. The detail focused on areas identified through crime mapping software which uses previous incidents to determine high probability areas for DUI violations. The members at PSP Hamburg arrested one person for DUI, one person for Public Drunkenness, and issued 30 Traffic Citations for various traffic violations during this detail.
Attempted burglary in Shoemakersville
On August 25, unknown individuals arrived at Boyer's Food Market and used a blunt device to try to dislodge the overhead door but was unsuccessful. The individuals then fled, causing approx. $600 damage to both of the left and center overhead dock doors. . Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at Hamburg, at 610-378-4011.
Theft of removable mini-van seat
On August 24, unknown individuals arrived a red wooden barn garage belonging to William Lee Gillmore, 34, Shartlesville, and removed a backseat accessory to a Dodge Caravan valued at approx. $100. The victim found his seat at a local hang out for juveniles and returned it to his vehicle.
Two vehicle crash in Windsor Township
On August 25, a vehicle operated by Keryrn Jean Cashman, 17, Hamburg, was traveling north on State Road 61 within the left lane and a vehicle operated by Christopher M. Schaeffer, 23, Auburn, was stopped within the left lane waiting to turn. The vehicle operated by Cashman approached the rear of Schaeffer's vehicle and attempted to stop but was unsuccessful. Upon impact, Cashman's vehicle came to rest within the left lane of State Road 61 and Schaeffer's vehicle was propelled 15 ft. in a northerly direction. All operators refused medical treatment from responding Hamburg Ambulance.
Retail theft in Tilden Township
On August 25, Frederick J. Ford, 49, Denver, was observed by Cabela's Loss Prevention removing a part from a $149.69 Receiver / Antenna and returned the box to the shelf. The accused then took possession of a 4-pack container of flares valued at $29.99 and a number kit valued at $14.49.
Theft in Windsor Township
On August 25, three orange and white wooden barricades were stolen from the Hamburg Jaycee's. The barricades were being used to control traffic for the Blue Mountain Wildlife Sprint Race. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at Hamburg, at 610-378-4011.
