Police reported the following:Suicide in Tilden Township

On Jan. 19, Peter A. Graham, 21, State College and his sister, Tara H. Graham, 30, State College, were traveling eastbound on Interstate 78 in Tara Graham's car. They were en route to St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown, when the victim, Peter Graham, attempted to jump from the moving car. Tara Graham indicated that her brother had been distraught. Tara Graham prevented her brother from jumping out and pulled to the side of the road. At this time, Peter Graham exited the vehicle, crossed the eastbound lane of Interstate 78, paused at the jersey barrier and then jumped over the barrier into the path of a westbound tractor trailer. Graham was struck and killed. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Berks County Deputy Coroner William Hertzog. The incident closed down Interstate 78 for 3 and a half hours while an investigation was conducted. Police were assisted at the scene by the Hamburg Fire Company, Shoemakersville Fire Company, and the Hamburg EMS and Fire Police. All indications are that this incident is a suicide. State police investigation will continue pending any additional findings by the coroner's office.

Terroristic threats in Tulpehocken Township On Jan. 19, Tracey Marie Kauffman, 35, Bethel received what sounded like a female telemarketer phone call. The victim terminated the phone call when she suspected that the individual was a telelmarketer. About one minute later, a male called the victim from the same numebr and threatened Kauffman's life Investigation continues.

Crash involving DUI in Tilden Township

On Jan. 20, a crash occurred as a vehicle operated by James Najda, 30, Shenandoah, was traveling east on West State Street approaching a vehicle operated by David Miller, Jr., 24, Hamburg. Najda lost control of his vehicle, causing it to travel into the eastbound lane of West State Street into the path of Miller's vehicle. The vehicles collided. Both drivers were wearing seatbellts and no one was injured. Najda was arrested for DUI and numerous summary charges at the scene.

Vehicle crash in Tilden Township

On Jan. 22, a crash occurred at the on ramp to Interstate 78 eastbound from State Road 61. Prior to the crash, a vehicle operated by Benjamin R. Wilburn, 23, Nazarerth, was traveling behind a vehicle operated by an unknown driver onto the on ramp. Prior to entering Interstate 78, the second driver slowed or stopped in the lane of travel. Wilburn did not notice that the vehicle had stopped and rear-ended the trailer of the unknown driver. After impact, the driver continued onto the Interstae heading east. Wilburn pulled his vehicle off the raodway and contacted State Police. Wilburn was cited for following too close.

Crash in Perry Township

On Jan. 29, a crash occurred on Ridge Road approx. 60 feet east of Seip Lane. A vehicle operated by Doreen W. Henry, 56, Shoemakersville, was traveling west on Ridge Road. The driver lost control of the vhicle on icy roadways. Impact occurred after the vehicle crossed the eastbound lane and struck an uphill embankment.

Collision in Windsor Township

On Jan. 29, a collision occurred as a vehicle operated by Bobbie J. Witkus, 35, Hamburg, was traveling east-bund on Schappell Road on an icy roadway. The diver lost control of the vehicle and travelled off the south berm. The front of the vehicle impacted an embankment south of the roadway, the re-entered the eastbound lane of travel. The vehicle's rear then spun counterclockwise ad rolled onto its left side in the eastbound lane facing north.

Residential burglary in

Shoemakersville

On Jan. 28, police investigated a residential burglary that occurred on 522 Water Street.

Unknown individual(s) forced entry through the rear door to the porch area and entered the residence, stealing a large amount of jewelry. Investigation continues. Anyone with information can contact Pa. State Police, Hamburg station, at 610-562-6885.

Crash occurred in Perry Township

On Jan. 29, a crash occurred on Ridge Road west of Seip Lane. A vehicle operated by Betty Blakeney, 73, Shoemakersville, was stopped in the eastbound lane of Ridge Road. A vehicle operated by Craig W. Henry, 55, Shoemakersville, was traveling westbound on Ridge Road. Henry lost control of his vehicle on icy roadways, crossed into the eastbound lane and struck Blakeney's vehicle head on. Both vehicles came to rest at point of impact. Blakeney was transported to Reading Hospital by the Muhlenberg Ambulance.

Purse snatched

On Jan. 11, an unknown male snatched a purse from a customer at the Dollar General Store, 700 South Fourth Street, Hamburg. Investigation continues.

Bicycle stolen

On Jan. 10, unknown person(s) stle a Next Brand MX Bicycle, black with red, from outside Journey Cafe on Pine Street Hamburg.

Harassment cited

On Jan. 12, a 17-year-old male juvenile from Hamburg was cited for harassment and disorderly conduct, stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred on Jan. 12 in the 800 block of South Fourth Street, Hamburg.

Tobacco Use

On Jan 18, a 16-year-old male from Bernville area was cited for use of tobacco in school, stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred on Dec. 11 in the Hamburg Area High School.
