First Reformed UCC, 76 S. Third St., Hamburg held its annual Christmas Bazaar in November. The church Auditorium was decorated for the holiday and full of baked goods, cookies, Cindy’s candy, handmade crafts, kids games and toys, and items from local vendors.
St. Nick’s Café was open with some good eats, too. Quite a few children were at the bazaar with their parents or grandparents. Santa must have been aware they were there because he made a surprise visit to St. Nick’s Café. Kids could be seen heading swiftly to the Café to sit on Santa’s lap. He had a toy for every one of them because they were all such good boys and girls.
Another surprise visit came from the Gilbert siblings of Sing for America. Sing for America is the group that performed Godpsell and Hamilton for the Church earlier this year. The Gilbert siblings are all very talented entrepreneurs and the founders of Sing for America. They surprised church members and guests with their hour-long Christmas show, performing while delighted guests shopped. There was also entertainment by children caroling through the aisles. That brought smiles to everyone.
The church’s auditorium was filled with fragrances and beautiful gift items to buy. Some of the vendors participating are members of Our Town Foundation’s Hamburg Area Arts Alliance. Along with the cookies, candy, and crafts made by church members, guests could find quality items from Black Horse Hill Collective, Cardinal Creations Co., Cathy Zimmerman’s Baked Goods, Charlotte Golden’s Photography, CynthiArt LLC, Kitchen Table Crafters, Purses by Nancy, Susan’s Ceramics, Tracy & Robert Smith’s Wreaths and Wine Bottles, Usborne Books, Ed VanWert’s Cigar Box Guitars, and more.
The Basket Raffle, a favorite of guests, was held again. The vendors were very generous this year with their contributions to the Vendor Basket, the basket raffle highlight. New this year was the Quilt Raffle. Two quilts were raffled that were hand quilted by the church’s Needles and Pins ladies group. The quilt tops were made by church members Darlene Berstler, twin size top, and Jean Weller, queen size top.
Raffle winners were First Aid Basket - Robert Rissmiller, Movie & Popcorn Basket – Doris Hoffman, Clothes Care Basket – Kimberly Merkel, Candle Basket – Kim Zerr, Bath Basket – Susan Himmelberger, Tote by Nancy – Pam Wunder, Personal Care Basket – Elsie Rothenberger, Cozy Cuddle Basket – Ann Van Wert, Coffee Bundle – Mike Wagner, Movie Night Basket – Susan Himmelberger, and the Vendor Basket – Kimberly Merkel. The twin quilt winner was Susan Shook and queen size quilt winner was Scott Thren.
The Bazaar Committee of First Reformed UCC congratulates our winners, thanks everyone who visited the bazaar, and hopes to see you again next year – and maybe on a Sunday morning!
