After just a month and a half of their membership drive, the Upper Bucks Senior Center has raised their membership to cross the goal of 500, set back in January. The membership drive was sparked by concerns of whether or not a new center would be built, the members pushed for the drive to show officials that the center is viable and needed.
Pictured left, Ruth Giering was member 495 for the center. A former member, Giering lost interest after the fire consumed the center this past summer. Now, she is back to help out.
There is a meeting scheduled for March 11 with various organizations to discuss the future.
Quakertown Borough Manager Scott Mcelree said about the membership, "It shows that there will be a future commitment to the center... We know whatever efforts the borough puts forth will not be for nothing."
Insurance settlement from the fire is not yet finalized.
