Shartlesville Lion receives state Lions Counsellor’s Award

Shartlesville Lions Club secretary, Shirley Berger, was the Lions District 14-P Counsellor’s Award honoree. She is holding her award and still beaming at the surprise recognition presented her at the Lions 14-P District Convention.

A Lions District honor has been bestowed on a Shartlesville Lion.

It was a total surprise to Shartlesville Lions Club secretary Shirley Berger when her name was called at the Lions District 14-P convention. The secretary was recognized with the state Lions Counsellor’s Award for which is the honoree is chosen by the respective Lions District.

Berger was chosen by the District 14-P committee, based on the many volunteer efforts both in Lions and in the community.

She puts endless hours in both service areas says club president/PDG Bob Argot, who nominated Berger for the award.

It was presented by PDG Charles Finney, chair of the district selection committee.

Berger’s community services include working at the local library, serving the local Grange, assisting in preparing meals for her church, compiling the church newsletter, driving local citizens to various appointments, and more.

In Lions she has and is serving as club secretary, makes endless phone calls for the free Thanksgiving dinner that the club hosts yearly for the Upper Bern Township senior citizens, bakes for club events, works at the community dances, shops for club events, and fulfills many other duties as well.

Lion Berger was indeed surprised with the award, but her fellow Lions know she is most deserving.
