The Girl Scout Silver Award was recently awarded to Nicole DeWald with Girl Scout Troop Troop 1007.

Nicole resides in Birdsboro and is a ninth-grade student at Daniel Boone Area High School.

The Girl Scout Silver award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. This award recognizes the milestone of completing the Girl Scout Journey and demonstrating leadership, organizational skills and dedication to improve their community.

The project must total or exceed 50 hours of time. This includes researching the project idea, meeting with the officials involved to get the project idea approved, setting a budget and timeline, contacting businesses for donations and fundraising as well as submitting for Girl Scout Council approval.

Nicole’s project was a life-sized checker board. It is 8 feet by 8 feet and was constructed out of brick pavers, a layer of screening, and 4 x 4 wood lumber pieces. Nicole also supplied giant checkers for the game board. It is benefiting the Birdsboro Community Memorial Center Summer Camp, After School Care and Senior Center located in Birdsboro.

The project was funded by Nicole and her team hosting a Scrapbook fundraiser last spring and by donations from Home Depot Exeter and Monty’s Mulch of Birdsboro
