Stanley R. Okonski Sr., 89, Shillington, died April 23, 2007, in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since April 11.He was the husband of Irene ( Stankiewicz) Okonski. They were married 68 years.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Alexander and Stella ( Buczkowski) Okonski.
He was a knitter for Berkshire Knitting Mills, worked in the machine shop for Textile Machine Works and worked in the foundry for Rockwell Industries, retiring in 1982.
He was an Army veteran of World War II in the Pacific ( Okinawa). An honorably discharged sergeant, his name is included in the World War II Memorial in Washington, D. C.
He was a member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Church, Shillington.
Stanley enjoyed woodworking and was an avid fisherman with a prize- winning flounder.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Stanley R. Jr., husband of Elaine, Kenhorst, and William J., husband of Jean, Cumru Township; and a daughter, Linda A., wife of John Ruth, Robesonia.
Other survivors include seven grandchildren: Chris Okonski, Michael Okonski, Amy Smith, Lori Baer, Matthew Ruth, Lee Ruth, William Ruth; and seven great- grandchildren: Jake, Audrey, Dylan, Taylor, Zachary, Benjamin and Abigail.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday at 10 a. m. in St. John Baptist de la Salle Church, 420 Holland St., Shillington, with the Rev. Leo S. Stajkowski celebrant.
