1964 'Last Saturday, Marcia Brumbach connected for 24 points against West Chester Henderson as the Boyertown Lady Bears defeated the Warriorettes, 52-23. In the first two games of the year, she had 37 points against Owen J. Roberts and 31 against Conshohocken. Her average for the three games for the year is 30.6 points per game. Susan Benfield has consistently backed up Marcian in the points parade. She scored 12 points against Owen J. Roberts, bucketed 19 in the Conchohocken contest and scored 16 in the West Chester fray.'The titans clashed, the shields resounded and the bells rang out in Pine Forge as a team from Manatawny rolled over a valient Lincoln School, 29-17, in a game that left little doubt of the identity of the league's strongest team. And it also left little doubt of the power of Randy Frech, as the Pine Forge ace sank 18 points, which was more than the entire Lincoln team. John Anderson teamed up with Randy in the scoring department to score nine points, while Dennis Eddinger sank two free shots to get on the scoreboard. Gene Schaeffer led Lincoln with nine points, while Bob Grubb, Randy Hunter, Todd Hallman and Bruce Hallman were all scoring two points to round out the Lincoln scoring.
'The Boyertown Junior High Bears rolled to their ninth staight win in basketball taking a 26-25 decision from Pottsgrove. Wynings had 15 points to lead Boyertown, while Hartline had 12 and Stofflet had 10.
'The Boyertown Bears boys' basketball team finished up the first half of the Ches-Mont League season last week in a second place tie with Pottstown and West Chester by whipping the Spring-Ford Rams at Boyertown, 83-43. The big story for Boyertown was Charlie Snel, who at once started acting nine feet tall and was pouring in field goals from all directions. He finished the night with 29 points. Right behind him was Chuck Williams with 27 points.
'Ellen Rhoads bowled the highest single game, 192, and the highest series total in Keh's Brothers Rambler Bowling League at the American Legion Alley. Eleanor Fritz paced the Devils with 157, and Jane Schott was the high scorer for the Angels with 190. Amy Shane topped the Saints team with 165.
'As the Ches-Mont League season comes quickly to an end, Coach Roy Cubbler takes his Boyertown High wrestling squad to Downingtown and Henderson this week. The Bears were wiped out by both Owen J. Roberts and Wyomissing this week. The Wildcats won 51-9, and Wyomissing triumphed, 31-12. Dennis Nyman, at 121 pounds, has been the one bright spot for the Bear matmen. His wins in both matches gave him six straight victories. Mike Boyer won his match against Owen J. Roberts, but lost 4-2 to Wyomissing. Bruce Graham bested his Wyomissing opponent, 7-1, while heavyweight Scott Rohrback won by forfeit.
'The Boyertown High School boys' basketball team defeated Great Valley last week, 88-64. Jeff Schoch led the way with 28 points and eight rebounds in the game.
'The Oley Valley High School boys' basketball team remained one game behind the leaders in the league after besting Fleetwood, 71-48. Buddy Reitnauer led the way with 27 points for Oley, 'The Oley matmen were defeated last week by Conrad Weiser, 36-22. There were two pins for Oley that included Gordon Rothenberger (132), 5:36, and Woody Sanders (185), 1:36. Decisions for Oley Valley were won by Dan Cawley, Dave Wanshop and Tim Delp.
'The Boyertown Area High School girls' basketball team rebound from a couple of losses last week to defeat West Chester Henderson, 57-28. Lori Romig scored 17 points to lead the Lady Bears, while Sandy Neiman had 16, and Carol Suppe ended with 13.
'The Boyertown Area High School boys' basketball team split a pair of games last week, including a victory over Phoenixville, 66-55. Jim Colihan led the team in scoring with 31 points. Chris Cotellese and Marc Alderfer each netted 12 to back up Colihan's performance. Tim Lambert chipped in nine of his own.
'The Boyertown High wrestling team defeated Owen J. Roberts last week, 33-22. Scott Hetrick, Jeff Oswald, Ray Morrell and Chris Oswald all earned pins for the winners.
'The Oley Valley boys' basketball team lost to Mount Penn last week, 50-48. Greg Ramich, currently 12th in the list of scorers in the county, scored 14 for Oley. Ron Steffe added 10.
'Mount Penn was no obstacle for the mighty Lady Lynx basketball team as they won the game, 76-35. Karen Howard powered the offense with 15 of her 19 points in the first quarter. Annette Fredicine finished with 14 points. Alisa Gernerd and Nadine Nowotarski also scored in double figures with 13 points each.
