The United Way of Boyertown Area kicked off it's annual Campaign on Saturday night, Sept. 13 at the postponed home football game of the Boyertown Area Senior High School. Board members of the United Way of Boyertown Area thanked the Boyertown Area Community for their past support of 16 local, nonprofit agencies and asked for their support again this year. The community's support is critical this year! The needs are greater this year so the United Way of Boyertown Area Board has set an aggressive Campaign target of $375,000, up $25,000 from last year. And even this increase may not meet the need. So the board is asking those who can give to give more since so many more people need our assistance this year.
The local, non-profit agencies are receiving more calls for emergency help due to lay offs, home foreclosures and higher fuel costs to name just a few reasons. The elderly and others on fixed budgets are being hurt not only by skyrocketing fuel costs but by higher living costs across the board. Everyone is being hurt but some more than others.
Boyertown Area School District residents are asked to give directly to their local United Way (P.O. Box 213, Boyertown, PA 19512) or to designate that their payroll deductions be sent to the United Way of Boyertown Area. "Local giving, Stays Local." Whatever size gift people are able to give is appreciated and goes to support local agencies that provide a wide variety of critical services to the local Boyertown Area community.
Most area businesses have their annual United Way campaign starting soon and ending by late November. The dedicated volunteers at the United Way of Boyertown Area are willing to help local businesses plan, organize and run their annual campaign whenever they choose. So if you are a local business, community or organization leader looking to play your annual giving campaign, please contact your local United Way office at 610-367-8716 or visit their new Web site at www.UnitedWayBoyertown.org.
