Special to the Tri County Record
BIRDSBORO - Blake Denlinger, an Aleithia High School senior, recently received the designation of Commended Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. Only about 34,000 students in the entire country received this distinction given by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). To earn this commendation, Denlinger had to place in the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. According to NMSC, young people who have been named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding academic promise by their performance in the program. It is their desire that students who receive this award strive to develop their scholastic potential to the fullest after graduation from high school.
After graduation, Denlinger, son of Gordon and Carolyn Denlinger of Churchtown, plans to major in English at Grove City College.
