The accident occurred at 4:13 p.m. on Route 10, 100 yards south of Best Road in Caernarvon/Lancaster Township.
According to Pa. State Police reports, Kristin L. McCalicher, 19, of Birdsboro was driving a 1995 Toyota Four Runner and was traveling north on Route 10 with Melvin Shoff of Morgantown as her passenger. Morris J. Twardowski, 71, of Pottstown, was driving a 1994 Dodge Intrepid and was traveling south on Route 10 with Doris Twardowski as his passenger.
For unknown reasons, McCalicher's vehicle crossed over into the oncoming lane and struck Twardowski's vehicle. The accident occurred on a straight stretch of Route 10 and was classified as a "head on" collision.
Twardowski was killed in the crash while his passenger, Doris Twardowski, was admitted to Brandywine Hospital, Caln, with serious injuries. McCalicher and Shoff experienced minor injuries.
Both vehicles incurred severe damage.
The Pa. State Police Reconstruction Team was called to the scene and the investigation is continuing. Occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts, and it appears alcohol was not a factor.
