POTTSTOWN - Cpl. Barry Grimm of Birds-boro was named the Pottstown Police Department Officer of the Year at the Pottstown Borough Council meeting Wednesday night.
Grimm, who has served on the force for the past nine years, was presented the honor by Mayor Sharon Valentine-Thomas, who commended his outstanding work. "He strives to be the best at what he does," Thomas said.
She mentioned Grimm-'s accomplishments in addition to his work on the force, not limited to his involvement with the D.A.R.E. program as an instructor, a member of the Honor Guard and a member of the Pottstown Com-munity Partners.
Valentine-Thomas no-ted Grimm's work in narcotics for the police department, especially his work with the department's vi-deo equipment.
Grimm thanked the de-partment, and commended the work of his colleagues. "If this award could be given to the same person more than once, there are a few guys who would receive this award more than once," Grimm said.
Grimm also recognized his wife, Sherry, with whom he has two young boys, Hunter, 3, and Wade, 1, for her patience with his work. "She is very understanding of the long hours I put in," Grimm said.
His wife said that she tries not to think about the dangerous aspect of her husband's profession, but she knows he wouldn't be content in another line of work. "He'd be bored doing anything else," she said.
