Sweet Surprises, at first glance, appears to be just another candy shop. But once you enter the store, you'll notice that is a one of a kind sweet shop.
Carol Wells, the owner, refers to her business as "A Romantic Gift and Candy Shoppe". She always has ten varieties of homemade fudge on display. This month she is featuring pumpkin pie fudge. You will also find peanut brittle, coffee, cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, popcorn and packaged candies. She is very proud of her chocolates which are made in New Jersey by Bayard-Prete Candy Co. a small third-generation family owned company.
Besides sweets, Wells makes a wide variety of gift baskets for any occasion. She has seasonal baskets as well as corporate baskets.
Also in the store are hard to find items such as Willow Tree Angels and special items for cat and dog lovers. There are also greeting cards, jewelry, and miniature porcelain tea sets.
Wells has owned and operated Sweet Surprises, with the help of Karen Bucher, since 1991 when she closed her St Peter's Village Fudge Shop.
Sweet Surprises lives up to it's name and is well worth a try.
